On a Friday night in New York, a poor young man called Jack stood near the subway station, playing his violin. He wanted to make some money by doing that. The music was so great that many people slowed down and put some money into his hat.
The next day, Jack came again. He took out a large piece of paper and put it on the ground. Then he began playing the violin. At that time, many people came up and down, looking at the paper. On the paper it said, “Last night, a warm-hearted gentleman put an important thing into my hat. Please come to get it back as soon as possible.”
Seeing this, people couldn’t help wondering what it could be. After about half an hour, a man rushed through the crowd to the young man and said. “I’m Bill Black. I knew you’d surely come back here!”
Then Bill explained the whole story. Yesterday he happened to hear Jack’s music on his way home, and felt the music was really beautiful and took out $10 and put it in the hat. However,  his ring was also thrown in. It was too late when he found what happened. He thought he couldn’t find his ring any more. But to his great happiness, he got it again.
Jack was a student at an art school in Paris. He planned to fly back to Paris that morning. However, when he saw the ring in his hat, he decided to stay here and tried to find the owner. He said, “Although I don’t have much money, I live happily; but if I lose honesty, I won’t be happy forever.”
